“The culture of Buddhism is a Bliss Culture for humanity. The culture to purify the human mind is also Human Bliss Culture. The purpose of learning Buddhism is to distance ourselves from suffering, and to attain true happiness and liberation. Only when we practise the Buddha’s teachings in our everyday life, eradicate our self-serving temperaments and habits, unfold our wisdom and seek liberation, can we truly understand the meaning of bliss and embrace a blissful life.”

Our mind is the creator of our own happiness and suffering. When our mind harbours impure thoughts of greed, anger, ignorance, egoistic arrogance, selfishness and suspicion, these give rise to negative deeds (e.g. killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, abusive speech, etc). By these, we destroy our own happiness. Hence, the misfortunes and sufferings that we experience are the consequences of innumerable unwholesome deeds created by the negative karma of our body, speech and mind.

Due to lack of awareness and wisdom, we are often deceived by our own mind, and are ignorant of the natural Law of Cause and Effect. We act without realising or understanding the consequences of our actions. Hence, misfortunes, vexations, afflictive emotions and karmic hindrances follow. Distancing from brightness and going into darkness, we step into the muddy mire and fall into the abyss of suffering.
